（七十士譯）
一、原意「乞討」，（見πένης－SG3993，關於二字之別；在 詩56:1 70:5 等，注意其為相似語），倚靠他人救助的，亦或僅貧窮的。
A. 相當字義：χήρα πτωχὴ窮寡婦， 可12:42 ;參 可12:43 節; 路21:3 。大多作為實名詞，反於ὁ πλούσιος充足的人， 路6:20 （參 路6:24 節）; 啟13:16 。 太26:11 可14:7 路14:13,21 16:20,22 約12:6,8 羅15:26 （οἱ πτ. τῶν ἁγίων τῶν ἐν Ἰερουσαλήμ聖徒中的窮人，是表部分所有格。另外πτωχοί〔下面B.〕之意義＝ἅγιοι）； 林後6:10 （與πλουτίζειν使富足，作字之遊戲）； 加2:10 雅2:2,3,6 。οἱ πτ. τῷ κόσμῳ世上的貧窮人， 雅2:5 （反於πλούσιοι ἐν πίστει在信上富足）。διδόναι (τοίς) πτ.分給窮人， 太19:21 可10:21 路19:8 ;參 太18:22 約13:29 。被動: 太26:9 可14:5 約12:5 。

B. 有時並非單指經濟方面的不良狀況。而是指因受欺壓，而覺悟特別需要神之救助，而盼望很快求得（七十士譯；見πλοῦτος－SG4149一）。有福音傳給他們（ 賽61:1 ） 太11:5 路4:18 7:22 。（ 詩69:32 ）。

C. 喻意之表達：οἱ πτωχοὶ τῷ πνεύματι虛心的人， 太5:3 （見πνεῦμα－SG4151三）。老底嘉教會之使者說自己，πλούσιός εἰμι καὶ πεπλούτηκα我是富足，已經發了財，但被稱為是πτωχός貧窮， 啟3:17 。

二、「軟弱，可憐，乞憐，無能的」。用指στοιχεῖα小學（帶ἀσθενής無用）， 加4:9 。*
