When thou sittest<03427>(8799) to eat<03898>(8800) with a ruler<04910>(8802), consider<0995>(8799) diligently<0995>(8800) what is before<06440> thee:
2 你<0859>若<0518>是貪食<05315>的{<01167>}，就當拿刀<07915>放<07760>(8804)在喉嚨<09002><03930>上。
And put<07760>(8804) a knife<07915> to thy throat<03930>, if thou be a man given<01167> to appetite<05315>.
3 不可<0408>貪戀<0183>(8691)他的美食<09001><04303>，因為是<01931>哄人的<03577>食物<03899>。
Be not desirous<0183>(8691) of his dainties<04303>: for they are deceitful<03577> meat<03899>.
4 不要<0408>勞碌<03021>(8799)求富<09001><06238>(8687)，休<02308>(8798)仗自己的聰明<04480><0998>。
Labour<03021>(8799) not to be rich<06238>(8687): cease<02308>(8798) from thine own wisdom<0998>.

6 不要<0408>吃<03898>(8799){<0853>}惡<07451>眼<05869>人的飯<03899>，也不要<0408>貪<0183>(8691)他的美味<09001><04303>；
Eat<03898>(8799) thou not the bread<03899> of him that hath an evil<07451> eye<05869>, neither desire<0183>(8691) thou his dainty meats<04303>:
7 因為<03588>他心<09002><05315>怎樣<03644>思量<08176>(8804)，他<01931>為人就是怎樣<03651>。他雖對你<09001>說<0559>(8799)，請吃<0398>(8798)，請喝<08354>(8798)，他的心<03820>卻與你<05973>相背<01077>。
For as he thinketh<08176>(8804) in his heart<05315>, so is he: Eat<0398>(8798) and drink<08354>(8798), saith<0559>(8799) he to thee; but his heart<03820> is not with thee.
8 你所吃<0398>(8804)的那點<06595>食物必吐出來<06958>(8686)；你所說的甘美<05273>言語<01697>也必落空<07843>(8765)。
The morsel<06595> which thou hast eaten<0398>(8804) shalt thou vomit up<06958>(8686), and lose<07843>(8765) thy sweet<05273> words<01697>.
9 你不要<0408>說話<01696>(8762)給愚昧人<03684>聽<09002><0241>，因<03588>他必藐視<0936>(8799)你智慧<09001><07922>的言語<04405>。
Speak<01696>(8762) not in the ears<0241> of a fool<03684>: for he will despise<0936>(8799) the wisdom<07922> of thy words<04405>.
10 不可<0408>挪移<05253>(8686)古時<05769>的地界<01366>，也不可<0408>侵入<0935>(8799)孤兒<03490>的田地<09002><07704>；
Remove<05253>(8686) not the old<05769> landmark<01366>; and enter<0935>(8799) not into the fields<07704> of the fatherless<03490>: {landmark: or, bound}
11 因<03588>他們的救贖主<01350>(8802)大有能力<02389>，他<01931>必向你<0854>為他們辨<07378>(8799){<0853>}屈<07379>。
For their redeemer<01350>(8802) is mighty<02389>; he shall plead<07378>(8799) their cause<07379> with thee.
12 你要留心<03820>領受<0935>(8685)訓誨<09001><04148>，側耳<0241>聽從知識<01847>的言語<09001><0561>。
Apply<0935>(8685) thine heart<03820> unto instruction<04148>, and thine ears<0241> to the words<0561> of knowledge<01847>.
13 不可<0408>不<04513>(8799)管教<04148>孩童<04480><05288>；{<03588>}你用杖<09002><07626>打他<05221>(8686)，他必不<03808>至於死<04191>(8799)。
Withhold<04513>(8799) not correction<04148> from the child<05288>: for if thou beatest<05221>(8686) him with the rod<07626>, he shall not die<04191>(8799).
14 你<0859>要用杖<09002><07626>打他<05221>(8686)，就可以救<05337>(8686)他的靈魂<05315>免下陰間<04480><07585>。
Thou shalt beat<05221>(8686) him with the rod<07626>, and shalt deliver<05337>(8686) his soul<05315> from hell<07585>.
15 我兒<01121>，你心<03820>若<0518>存智慧<02449>(8804)，我<0589>的心<03820>也<01571>甚歡喜<08055>(8799)。
My son<01121>, if thine heart<03820> be wise<02449>(8804), my heart<03820> shall rejoice<08055>(8799), even mine<0589>. {even...: or, even I will rejoice}
16 你的嘴<08193>若說<09002><01696>(8763)正直話<04339>，我的心腸<03629>也必快樂<05937>(8799)。
Yea, my reins<03629> shall rejoice<05937>(8799), when thy lips<08193> speak<01696>(8763) right things<04339>.
17 你心<03820>中不要<0408>嫉妒<07065>(8762)罪人<09002><02400>，只要<03588><0518>終<03605>日<03117>敬畏<09002><03374>耶和華<03068>；
Let not thine heart<03820> envy<07065>(8762) sinners<02400>: but be thou in the fear<03374> of the LORD<03068> all the day<03117> long.
18 因為<03588>至終<0319>必<0518>有<03426>善報，你的指望<08615>也不致<03808>斷絕<03772>(8735)。
For surely there is<03426> an end<0319>; and thine expectation<08615> shall not be cut off<03772>(8735). {end: or, reward}
19 我兒<01121>，你<0859>當聽<08085>(8798)，當存智慧<02449>(8798)，好在正道上<09002><01870>引導<0833>(8761)你的心<03820>。
Hear<08085>(8798) thou, my son<01121>, and be wise<02449>(8798), and guide<0833>(8761) thine heart<03820> in the way<01870>.
20 好飲<09002><05433>(8802)酒<03196>的，好吃<09002><02151>(8802)肉<01320>的{<09001>}，不要<0408>與他們來往<01961>；
Be not among winebibbers<03196><05433>(8802); among riotous eaters<02151>(8802) of flesh<01320>: {of flesh: Heb. of their flesh}
21 因為<03588>好酒<05433>(8802)貪食<02151>(8802)的，必致貧窮<03423>(8735)；好睡覺<05124>的，必穿<03847>(8686)破爛衣服<07168>。
For the drunkard<05433>(8802) and the glutton<02151>(8802) shall come to poverty<03423>(8735): and drowsiness<05124> shall clothe<03847>(8686) a man with rags<07168>.
22 你要聽從<08085>(8798){<02088>}生<03205>(8804)你的父親<09001><01>；{<03588>}你母親<0517>老了<02204>(8804)，也不可<0408>藐視<0936>(8799)她。
Hearken<08085>(8798) unto thy father<01> that begat<03205>(8804) thee, and despise<0936>(8799) not thy mother<0517> when she is old<02204>(8804).
23 你當買<07069>(8798)真理<0571>；就是智慧<02451>、訓誨<04148>，和聰明<0998>也都不可<0408>賣<04376>(8799)。
Buy<07069>(8798) the truth<0571>, and sell<04376>(8799) it not; also wisdom<02451>, and instruction<04148>, and understanding<0998>.
24 義人<06662>的父親<01>必大<01524>得快樂<01523>(8799)；人生<03205>(8802)智慧<02450>的兒子<01121>，必因他<09002>歡喜<08055>(8799)。
The father<01> of the righteous<06662> shall greatly<01524> rejoice<01523>(8799): and he that begetteth<03205>(8802) a wise<02450> child shall have joy<08055>(8799) of him.
25 你要使父<01>母<0517>歡喜<08055>(8799)，使生你的<03205>(8802)快樂<01523>(8799)。
Thy father<01> and thy mother<0517> shall be glad<08055>(8799), and she that bare<03205>(8802) thee shall rejoice<01523>(8799).
26 我兒<01121>，要將你的心<03820>歸<05414>(8798)我<09001>；你的眼目<05869>也要喜悅<07521>(8799)<05341>(8799)我的道路<01870>。
My son<01121>, give<05414>(8798) me thine heart<03820>, and let thine eyes<05869> observe<07521>(8799)<05341>(8799) my ways<01870>.
27 {<03588>}妓女<02181>(8802)是深<06013>坑<07745>；外女<05237>是窄<06862>阱<0875>。
For a whore<02181>(8802) is a deep<06013> ditch<07745>; and a strange woman<05237> is a narrow<06862> pit<0875>.
28 {<0637>}她<01931>埋伏<0693>(8799)好像強盜<09003><02863>；她使人中<09002><0120>多有<03254>(8686)奸詐<0898>(8802)的。
She also lieth in wait<0693>(8799) as for a prey<02863>, and increaseth<03254>(8686) the transgressors<0898>(8802) among men<0120>. {as for...: or, as a robber}

30 就是那流連<09001><0309>(8764)飲<05921>酒<03196>、常去<09001><0935>(8802)尋找<09001><02713>(8800)調和酒<04469>的人。
They that tarry long<0309>(8764) at the wine<03196>; they that go<0935>(8802) to seek<02713>(8800) mixed wine<04469>.
31 酒<03196>{<03588>}發紅<0119>(8691)，{<03588>}在杯<09002><03563>(8675)<03599>中閃爍<05414>(8799)<05869>，你不可<0408>觀看<07200>(8799)，雖然下咽<01980>(8691)舒暢<09002><04339>，終久<0319>是咬<05391>(8799)你如蛇<09003><05175>，刺<06567>(8686)你如毒蛇<09003><06848>。
Look<07200>(8799) not thou upon the wine<03196> when it is red<0119>(8691), when it giveth<05414>(8799) his colour<05869> in the cup<03563>(8675)<03599>, when it moveth<01980>(8691) itself aright<04339>.
