提摩太后书 4章3节 到 4章3节     上一笔  下一笔
{A time when} (kairos hote). One of the akair(9373) (out of
season) times. {Will not endure} (ouk anexontai). Future middle
(direct) of anech(935c). "Will not hold themselves back from" (Col.
 3:13 ). Having itching ears (kn(8874)homenoi t(886e) ako(886e)). Present
middle (causative) participle of kn(8874)h(935c), late and rare form of
the Attic kna(935c), to scratch, to tickle, here only in N.T.
"Getting the ears (the hearing, (886e) ako(886e)) tickled." The
Vulgate has prurientes. Cf. the Athenians ( Ac 17:21 ). Clement
of Alexandria tells of speakers tickling (kn(8874)hontes) the ears
of those who want to be tickled. This is the temptation of the
merely "popular" preacher, to furnish the latest tickle.
